ACORN recognizes that the unique expertise required to design and develop a modern accelerator control system may come from a number of valued sources. Industry experts, the Experimental Physics and Industrial Control System (EPICS) user community, vendors, universities and other national and international laboratories have been identified as potential partners.
Initiatives for collaboration are driven by the nature of the project, forward-thinking leaders and the understanding that a team of collaborators will ultimately contribute to the overall success of the project.
Human factors partnership with Idaho National Laboratory
Idaho National Laboratory has human factors expertise they are lending to the ACORN project as we pursue a control system that better suits the humans using it.

At the International Conference on Applied Human Factors and Ergonomics 2024 our Human Factors/User Experience (HF/UX) team was recognized with the Best Paper Award for their work on ”Human Factors Design for Particle Accelerator Control Room Interfaces.” This prestigious award is a testament to the team’s novel contribution to the field of human factors in software and systems engineering. Their research is essential for improving the safety and efficiency of our control room operations. Learn more here: Human Factors Design for Particle Accelerator Control Room Interfaces
